Behavior Problems: Are You Rewarding Them?

You could be unknowingly rewarding your dog and that undesirable behavior is becoming stronger.

Are you experiencing undesirable behaviors?

• Jumping on guest

• Barking at neighbors kids

• Raider of the lost chicken

• Barking to be released from crate

The undesirable behaviors can go on. You may have tried something and it is not working. But are you doing it correctly?

Jumping is a very common problem and once that jumping problem has been rewarded by touching, eye contact, talking, and pushing the dog down you have given the dog attention. You got it! You have been giving your dog attention.

The solution would be to manage the situation to prevent the dog from jumping. You could use a crate until your visitors come in. You could teach a behavior of sit when greeting guest coming in. When the dog sits that is when he can get the attention of eye contact, touching and praise.

There really are solutions for behavior problems. Can you imagine hiring a certified dog trainer to help with your problem? You might be so frustrated that you continue giving into the dog by giving attention.
