I train dogs "Find It" for different reasons. It is a good enrichment for the dog. Teaching this cue means for the dog to sniff or look at the ground to find something. This can be small pieces of food used from their favorite kibble or treats can be used.
Training a dog "Find It" is taught by saying "Find It" then tossing small pieces of food on the ground. This is a great time for the dogs to use their nose and search for it. Dogs need to explore and use their noses.
I also find this useful for dogs that are reactive on leash when another dog is coming into view. This is management that can be used by breaking the focus off the other dog.
On bad weather days this is great to use inside the home too. You can put treats in different areas of the home and cue your dog to "Find It" and get them to searching.
I have used old boxes and put treats inside the box closed and let the work on "Find It".
This can be fun for both you and your dog. Use it when you can even on those bad weather days.
You can always hire a certified dog trainer to coach you along the way. You never know when "Find It" could be of help to you.
